Born in Austin and growing up in several towns in Texas, Rick graduated from Reagan High School and in later years, St. Edwards University. An 11-year veteran, he served in the US Army’s Green Berets and the Texas Army National Guard, and during that time was a kidney donor for his late sister Jeanne. After finishing college, he worked at Brackenridge Hospital, later leaving Austin to become the founding CEO of Community Hospices of America, headquartered in Missouri. After leaving hospice, he founded SafeSpace Company where he works with his daughter Carley. Rick’s free time is spent as an inventor/maker (holds four US patents), story-teller, author and proud “Pawpaw” to granddaughter Savannah.
